Ava Wins the 2019 GHJA Pony Medal Finals

Alpharetta, GA – Nov. 14, 2019 – Ava Hartman, riding her large pony Sugarbrook Westpoint (Jackson), competed under the lights and in front of a large crowd at the Wills Park Equestrian Center on Saturday night to win the 2019 Georgia Hunter Jumper Association (GHJA) Pony Medal Finals against an invite-only field consisting of some of the top pony equitation riders in Georgia.

On a sunny fall evening, there was no time for nerves as ten year old Ava was the 1st of 15 to ride in the over-fences portion of the finals. With the Star Spangled Banner barely over, Ava and Jackson attacked the Jay Sims designed course with determination and earned their spot in the top ten finalists returning for the flat class. At the end of the flat, the riders lined up to hear the result, which were read from 10th place to 1st. Ava and Jackson, both nervously excited about their rides, were the last to hear their name called – at which time tears and smiles were abundant.

It was the highlight of a great GHJA finals weekend and a great show year for Ava and Jackson, who have been riding together since February. Ava commented that, while one of her top riding memories had been her Short-Stirrups Derby victory at the 2018 GHJA Finals, this one was even better.
