Ava Hartman & Impression Score 86 in Both Rounds, Placing 2nd in USHJA National Hunter Derby at Tryon

Ava Hartman & Impression (Poe)

Tryon, NC – Ava Hartman was all smiles after she and her horse, Impression (Poe), finished two beautiful rounds (each with scores of 86) in the $2500 USHJA National Hunter Derby at the Tryon International Equestrian Center. The score of 172 overall was enough to earn them second overall. In a mixed field of 18 amateur and professional riders, at 12 years old, Hartman was not only the youngest rider, but she was also the only amateur rider in the top 4.

“I don’t even mind that we missed out on first. I am just so happy that Poe and I were able to go out there and show what we can do. We’ve worked so hard over the last six months and I feel like we’re finally starting to find some consistency” said Hartman. “Poe is such a good boy, but he’s young and hasn’t shown much, so we’re both kind of learning the ropes at the same time.”

In addition to finishing second in the Derby, the pair earned two first place ribbons and the Champion spot in the Junior Hunter 3’3″ division. While they’ve had some good rides in the Junior Hunters over their 4 shows in the division, this was their first Champion finish.
