Traverse City, MI – July 2, 2022 – Ava Hartman and Impression (“Poe”) held their own at the 2022 Adequan / USEF Junior Hunter National Championships competing in the Large 3’6″ 15 & Under Division. Hartman, who was among the youngest riders at 13 years old, competed on her KMPN dark bay gelding, Impression, who just turned 9 (it was also his first appearance in a major competition). She found early success finishing 8th in the first day’s Classic Round and 9th in the second day’s Flat Class. This put her in the top ten going into the last day’s Handy Round. A short distance, however, dashed those hopes as she finished the Handy 19th, which put her in 14th overall for the competition. In the end, Hartman was pleased with her performance at this, her first Junior Hunter Finals, but she was disappointed because she knew that she was very close to a very special finish (as is often the case with hunter/jumper competitions).

“Poe (Impression) jumped his heart out this week. It was the first time here for both of us and it showed at times, but I’m super proud of our performance. I was excited to compete against the best-of-the best and I was happy to be able to hold our own. Big thank you to Don Stewart and Don Stewart Stables for taking care of us and having us prepared to go out there and compete this week” said Hartman after the show.

At only 13, Hartman will have plenty of opportunities to ride at Junior Hunter Finals in the future.
