Impression (Poe)

In February 2021, Ava purchased her first horse, Impression (Poe). Poe is an eight year old dark bay who was imported from Europe in 2019. He had previously competed in Europe and in a show at WEF. Despite being green, Poe is as sweet and gentle as horses come. He loves his job and loves people.

In July 2021, the pair competed for the first the first time. They competed in the Children’s Hunter division at Tryon, winning Reserve Champion in their first outing and winning the Children’s Hunter Classic in their second outing.

Poe likes to jump big, so, after two shows in the Children’s (3ft) division, in July 2021, they moved up to the Junior Hunter 3’3″ division. Despite starting the division half-way through the 2021 season, they earned two division Champion ribbons, two Reserve Champion ribbons and finished 2nd of 15 and 3rd of 18 in Junior Hunter Classics.

At the 2021 Tryon Fall I show, the pair competed in the USHJA National Hunter Derby and placed 2nd of 22 (highest placing amateur) with scores of 86 and 86.

They finished the 2021 show season 6th in Zone 4 for Junior Hunter (Large) 3’3″ (15&Under) and 4th in the Georgia Hunter Jumper Association (GHJA) Junior Hunter 3’3″.

In December 2021, Ava and Poe moved up to the Junior Hunter 3’6″ Division at the start of the 2022 show season. Their first show in this division was the Aiken December Classic I, where they earned Reserve Champion and finished 1st of 12 in the combined Junior Hunter Classic with scores of 85 & 84. They have won several Champion and Reserve Champion honors since then and will attend their first Junior Hunter Finals in June 2022. Ava is one of just a handful of 13 year old’s in the country competing in the Junior Hunter 3’6″ division and often finds herself competing against 16 and 17 year old’s, which she enjoys.
